Flare Stack Height Calculator

API 521 Radiation + Pasquill-Gifford CO Dispersion

Compute the minimum flare stack height so the flame radiant heat intensity at a ground-level receiver stays within the API 521 Table 9 limit — the primary stack-height criterion per API 537 §4.13.3.1. Flame length (API 521 Fig 8), tip exit velocity (Eq C.2) and wind-driven flame distortion (Figure 9) are computed from the actual flow, then the stack is sized from the point-source radiation (Eq 24).

Method (API 521 §6.4.2 + Annex C)

Flame length (Fig 8):

L = 0.00604 · Q0.4776

Tip exit velocity (Eq C.2):

uj = qvap / (π·d²/4)

Flame distortion (Fig 9):

u/uj → ΣΔx/L , ΣΔy/L

Flame-centre → receiver (Eq 24):

D = √( τ·F·Q / (4π·K) )
