Beggs-Brill Liquid Holdup Calculator

H_L for two-phase pipe flow — regime, inclination correction, in-situ density

Compute Beggs-Brill liquid holdup HL for a two-phase flow with arbitrary inclination. Returns the no-slip holdup λ_L, Froude number, regime (segregated / transition / intermittent / distributed), horizontal H_L(0), and the inclination-corrected H_L(θ). H_L drives any downstream in-situ density, pressure-gradient, or slug-volume calculation. Per Beggs-Brill JPT 1973.

Equations

No-slip holdup & Froude:

λL = vSL / vm · NFr = vm² / (g·D)

Horizontal holdup (segregated):

HL(0) = 0.98 · λL0.4846 / NFr0.0868

Inclination correction:

ψ = 1 + C·[sin(1.8θ) − (1/3)sin³(1.8θ)] · HL(θ) = HL(0)·ψ
