Meter Factor / Composite Meter Factor (API MPMS Ch. 12.2)
Enter the prover base volume and meter indicated volume for each proving run. The calculator returns the per-run meter factors, the composite (average) meter factor, repeatability, and pass/fail against the repeatability tolerance.

Formula

MF = Prover Vol / Meter Vol
Composite MF = mean(MFi)
Repeatability = (maxβˆ’min)/mean Γ— 100
Accept if repeatability ≀ tolerance
New K = old K / composite MF

Engineering Notes

  • Repeatability: range of MFs ≀ 0.05% of the mean (typical).
  • Composite MF: average of accepted runs; applied to indicated volume.
  • Investigate MF drift > 2.5% from unity (meter wear, prover calibration).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a meter factor?

MF = prover base volume / meter indicated volume. The meter's indicated volume is multiplied by MF to get corrected volume. Composite MF averages the accepted runs.

What is the 0.05% repeatability criterion?

The range of meter factors over the runs must not exceed 0.05% of the mean (API MPMS Ch. 4); otherwise the proving is invalid.

How is the K-factor updated?

New K-factor = old K-factor / composite MF, so the flow computer reports corrected volume directly.
