ASME B16.5 ยท Flange Bolting ยท Torque
Complete coverage of ASME B16.5 flange bolt sizing, torque calculations with K-factor, and gasket seating stress per ASME PCC-1.
Stud bolt length is determined by adding flange thickness, gasket thickness, nut heights, and thread protrusion per ASME B16.5 and PCC-1. This calculator computes the required stud length for standard ASME flange classes.
Flange stud bolt sizing follows ASME B16.5 for pressure-temperature ratings, ASME PCC-1 for bolted joint assembly guidelines, and ASME B1.1 for thread dimensions. Bolt material grades are per ASTM A193/A194.
Per ASME PCC-1, stud bolts should have a minimum of one thread protruding beyond each nut face after tightening. This calculator accounts for full nut engagement plus the required thread protrusion.
Higher ASME flange classes (e.g., Class 600 vs. Class 150) require larger bolt diameters and higher bolt torque to maintain gasket seating stress at elevated pressures. The calculator selects bolt sizes per ASME B16.5 tables.
