AWS A5.1/A5.5 · API 1104 · SMAW Electrode Estimation
SMAW Electrode Consumption Estimator
Calculate welding rod requirements per AWS A5.1-2012/A5.5-2014. Includes electrode efficiency (58-75%), stub loss (2" per 14" rod), and joint geometry factors. Pipe girth mode per API 1104 standard bevel (30° each side, 1/16" land).

📋 Quick Reference - AWS/API 1104
E6010/E6011: Root passes, deep penetration. DCEP for 6010, AC/DCEP for 6011. Not moisture-sensitive.
E7018: Fill/cap, low-H (<8 ml/100g). Store 250-300°F. 4-hr max exposure.
E8018-G: X70 pipeline (80 ksi). Matches API 5L X70 strength.
Efficiency: 58% (cellulosic) to 75% (E7024 high iron powder)
Stub loss: ~2" per 14" rod (14% unusable per AWS D1.1)
⚠️ Preheat Guide (ASME B31.8)
t < 0.5": None required above 50°F ambient
t = 0.5-0.75": 50-175°F depending on ambient
t > 0.75": 175-250°F minimum; use low-H electrodes
High CE (>0.45): Preheat + slow cool + low-H required
