Engineering Notes

  • Welding Purge: Target <0.5% Oโ‚‚ for stainless, <1.0% for carbon steel root passes. Use Oโ‚‚ analyzer to verify.
  • Tape Coating: NACE requires minimum 50% overlap. Total thickness should be 40-80 mils for buried pipe.
  • Hot Tap Flow: API 2201 limits velocity to <60 ft/s gas, <10 ft/s liquid during tapping to prevent cutter damage.
